6 Steps for Healthier Skin

Knowing what products work, how they benefit your skin, and the order in which to use them is incredibly important when developing a skincare routine that works. Everybody’s skin is different and understanding your own skin is important first before trying out any products at all. A lot of products on the shelves are made for the general public in mind and I find that really figuring out how your skin reacts to even the most basic of products for example, sun screen can really help keep yourself informed.

The basic morning and evening routines are listed below, but keep in mind that depending on the sensitivity, moisture, oiliness, and other factors this may not work for you or the process may need to be tweaked in order to get the best results. A lot of skin care guides on the internet promise you results by following a strict routine. That’s not always the case, and sometimes an on again off again cycle usually works best and gives your skin the proper opportunity to create and secrete it’s own natural oils that help protect it from the sun, wind, and dirt that affect our skin on a daily basis.

Morning Routine

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner
  3. Exfoliant
  4. Serum
  5. Moisturizer with sunscreen
  6. Optional:Targeted solution (applied as needed before sunscreen)

Evening Routine

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner
  3. Exfoliant
  4. Serum
  5. Moisturizer
  6. Optional:Targeted solution, as needed, applied before or after your moisturizer or eye cream.

I’m not going to get into the specifics of which products to use because I think what works best is a trail and error process. Once you’ve determined what kind of condition your skin is in visit your local skin care practitioner and ask them for samples of varying products that match. Go through weeks with each sample and figure out which one’s work for you and start narrowing down the process. In this way it’ll also be cost effective so that you’re not spending an arm and a leg on expensive creams and other products.

Lastly, it’s important that you stay consistent, but not to overdo it. Too much of anything isn’t good and will leave your skin in a worse condition than you started with. Everything in moderation, even moderation!

  1. Totally agree that everyone should find their own products that work for them, there is no cure-all for everyone.
